phehro asked: I looked into several volunteer programs and was interested in Projects Abroad (www.projectsabroad.org). For two months at Ghana (for medicine) it costs $3,695.00. This cost comes with:
* all your food and accommodation
* transfers to and from the airport
* full travel insurance
* medical insurance
* support and 24 hour back-up from both our local and US/Canada staff.
Is that a reasonable cost?

chamberlainfan365 asked: if a person goes to the UK on vacation and they have travel insutance and they have an accident while in the UK and they need emergency treatment from a hospital will that person who is not a UK national have to pay for medical treatment while in the hospital or would they get medical treatment free as part of the NHS (I know most Americans think its evil beyond words) or would they have to pay and claim off the travel insurance when they got home. How does the NHS work when it comes to holiday makers when they come to the UK?

Fuzzy M asked: I am a 30-year-old US citizen who has been living outside the US. I have end-stage colon cancer, and I suspect no normal health insurance provider will ensure me because my pre-existing condition means I am not so much a risk at this point as a definite cost.
I want to go home and visit my friends and family (just for a few weeks), but if something should happen and I need medical attention, I’m afraid my life savings will be drained by a single surgery. Is there any kind of temporary high-risk insurance or government program you know of that I might qualify for? My health insurance in this country will not extend to the US, and I think the travel medical insurance in this country is only available to citizens of this country (though I will look into that).
Thanks in advance.

Amy asked: Does anyone know of a good travel insurance? I am traveling with my 9 month old baby from US to Japan for a month. Just in case, I want medical and flight insurance. There are so many insurance companies and I don’t know which one is reliable and reasonable in price.

passionfruit_gal asked: Hi, my mum is in Australia and on her way to the Bahamas to do some sailing (hard life..) and needs some travel insurance. Mostly medical cover for USA/world (I’ve seen SICKO by Michael Moore) and cancellation etc.
Can you recommend any companies/policies? She is 53. Is probably looking for annual cover as she will be going away again overseas (Asia) later in the year.
DCK – thanks for contributing, but as I mentioned, my Mum is here in Australia, so it needs to be a company that is based here (the place she is a resident as insurance policies will fly you back if needed, to your home of residence only).
In regards to SICKO, it was in referrence to the cost of health care in the USA, which if you are not insured, visiting or not, you have to foot the bills.
Also, she will probably get annual cover which covers you for several trips a year around the world.

jnderose asked: I am planning two trips for later this year and I am wondering how health care works when in a European countyry or S. America. Does my US health insurance mean anything there or work there? Do I buy temporary insurance in the country where I am?
